Premier League Review – Gameweek 34

Setting up for a Good Finale?

The season’s title seems set to be going to Manchester City once again, but we do have a great top-four chase that could take a turn in this final 4 games

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City

We start at the top of the table, where Manchester City faced Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park. The Manchester side, as usual, was able to get the three points, now allowing them to be able to clinch the title this Sunday. They were able to score two goals one right after the other to put the game to bed and push them closer to another trophy. This win has now made it clear that City is the clear and obvious winner for this season as they have shown game in, game out, that they have the ability to do so.

Southampton vs Leicester City

All looked so bright for Leicester after a red card for Southampton defender, Jannik Vestergaard had brought them down to 10 men after only the 9th minute, leaving the rest of the game to play for. Although being at a disadvantage, Southampton was the team to break the deadlock and score first with a penalty scored by James Ward-Prowse. This lead quickly deteriorated after an equalizer from the defender, Jonny Evans. Luckily for Southampton, they were able to just get by with a point, in a game where it already seemed unlikely, they also had to beat the odds with 10 men. This damages Leicester’s top-four hopes largely after they now pull closer to 5th.

Chelsea vs Fulham

Fulham is in desperate need of points to drag them out of the relegation zone, and they were not able to get against the ‘in-form' Chelsea side. This then puts them 9 points away from safety, this can be done and if pulled off could be one of, or if not, the greatest comeback in the Premier League. On the other hand, Chelsea was able to get a nice 2-0 win with the help of Kai Havertz and his brace. This win now pushes Chelsea into the top four leaving it all to play for in these next 4 or 5 matches.

Burnley vs West Ham United

Both teams need this win as much as each other and it was clear to see. But West Ham was able to get away with the three points although conceding first, through a penalty scored by Chris Wood. West Ham United is now 3 points behind 4th place Chelsea, who also are in need to make sure that they are safe from the top 4 chase.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Sheffield United

Tottenham who also is a part of the top 4 chase was in dire need of some points to boost their position on the table, this time able to get a clear win with the help of Gareth Bale’s hat-trick. Tottenham is now 5 points away from 4th place leaving them too in a good position to pounce for the Champions League spot. After this game, and Tottenham’s great performance it shows that they may be able to get themselves a position in the top 4. Sheffield United, however, seems to be showing and giving evidence as to why they are being relegated with losses like these. The team needs a refresh in the Championship and hopefully, after that, they could get promoted again back into the Premier League.

Everton vs Aston Villa

Another top 4 chasing side that needs points to at least secure Europa League qualification. Everton, sadly, was not able to get any points, which they so desperately need, from the game. Aston Villa, on the other hand, was able to steal three points after a late goal from Anwar El Ghazi. Not all is gloomy for Everton as there still is hope for a top 4 spot as they are 9 points away from 4th place Chelsea.

Newcastle vs Arsenal

Arsenal seems to be back into the swing of things after a very poor run of form, and this was made very clear with this win for the North London side. Arsenal was able to take the lead from very early on and from then on they had dominated the game and were able to seal the deal with a goal scored by returning attacker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. With this win, Arsenal now has jumped Aston Villa into 9th position and from here on for these last 4 games it seems that the only way they can go is up the table.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Leeds United

Brighton who needed just a few more points just to be safe from relegation were able to get themselves a nice 2-0 win over the newly-promoted side. A victory that was deserved for Brighton after ‘dominating’ for the entire season. Leeds United, on the other hand, was not able to show any sort of good performances as they usually do.

West Bromwich Albion vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

West Brom went into the game needing a win and, they sadly were not able to get one, but they were able to steal a point from the game against a poor Wolves side. They were the first to score right towards the ending of the first half, but West Brom was able to answer in the 62nd minute with an equalizer scored by Mbaye Diagne. Although getting a point from the game, they had to get the win to possibly have a fighting chance in these final 5 or 4 games, but the points dropped from this game could be what gets them relegated or hepps them afloat in the Premier League.

Finishing Facts

I would like to just finish off by saying that the Premier League seems to be set for a great finale as usual with a tight top four race only spread out by 6 points or so and a relegation battle with many teams that still are not safe from sinking into the Championship
