Premier League Review – Gameweek 37

Second to Last Stop! + The Last Stop Preview!

Just before we get going into the final gameweek let's go through another time reviewing this week and who took the positives and negatives.

Brighton & Hove Albion vs Manchester City

Manchester City and its fans must be feeling ecstatic after being crowned the champions after Manchester United lost to Leicester City. They now, however, seem a lot more laid back and that was clear, after losing a 2-0 lead against Brighton who were able to mount a great comeback and win the game 3-2. Brighton now have just one more game for their seasons to finish and to be able catch a much needed rest after working extremely hard, on the other hand, Manchester City they still have some unfinished business to attend to being the Champions League Final and must be training and working as hard as they can to be able to win.

Manchester United vs Fulham

For both teams this game did not mean too much, as they both now have their fates for next season secured. Straight away, from the beginning, it was visible that Manchester United were the better team and that was made evident after a beautiful goal scored by Edinson Cavani. From the goal onwards however both teams had many great opportunities to either extend or shorten the lead but they just were not able to convert. But as the latter stage of the game was approaching, Fulham were able to score themselves a well deserved goal from Joe Bryan. Manchester United too must ready themselves for a final, for them being The Europa League Final against Villareal.

Chelsea vs Leicester City

Just a few days after they had matched up to play The FA Cup final, they met up once again this time in order to fight for a spot in the top four. Chelsea were able to get themselves payback, after losing 1-0 last time they played, and win 2-1 this time. The London side, also preparing to play in another final, had to win this game so they could book a spot in the top four, just like Leicester had to. The stakes were extreme for this and could have actually been the deciding factor of whether the team makes it into a Champions League position.

Burnley vs Liverpool

We now move to another game where the stakes were high for a top four spot once again. This time Burnley faced a desperate Liverpool who were in dire need of a win so that they could keep their top four hopes afloat. This desperation for the side was clear as they were able to win smoothly 3-0, Liverpool were clearly the better side and had shown that throughout the entirety of this match. But all of this effort could be in vain if they drop points in their next match against Crystal Palace, almost certainly denying Liverpool from a top four position.

West Bromwich Albion vs West Ham United

A short, poor run of games for West Ham United is the only thing holding the side back from a Champions League position, but from this season alone, there were probably so many more positives about this team than there were from ten or even five years ago. This game had shown that too. All of the great moments that this team had was represented in this game as they were able to come back and win the game against a poor West Bromwich Albion side. For West Ham they must now rethink where something may have gone wrong and just fix it and they will most definitely be a regular contender for a top four position.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Aston Villa

Tottenham and their European Football hopes were dented massively after a loss to Aston Villa. Although being the first team to score in this match, they were not able to hold onto the lead for not too long after a stunning own-goal was scored by Sergio Reguilon. Moments later Aston Villa were able to complete a comeback and lead after a great goal from Ollie Watkins. Tottenham now must look to the future and after the Harry Kane speculation about him wanting to leave, it does not look too bright unless able to hold onto their most valuable player.

Everton vs Wolverhampton Wanderers

Everton were able to help their European Football runs after an impressive 1-0 win against Wolves. After these three points it pushes The Toffees level on points with Tottenham and are now only 3 points away from 7th position West Ham leaving a lot hanging in the balance in this last game. Wolves, on the other hand, must really be killing time waiting for this awful season for the team to end. This means that during this upcoming transfer window, they must buy a striker as they are lacking in that position after Raul Jiminez’s injury and also a few other positions to fill in.

Crystal Palace vs Arsenal

Mature manager Roy Hodgson, after announcing that he will be leaving Crystal Palace must have been hoping for a win in his farewell game at Selhurst Park. However, although impressing the fans and viewers well after taking the lead, they were not able to win and sadly had lost after two injury time winners scored by Arsenal to win the game.

Southampton vs Leeds United

Both teams went into this game with nothing much to lose, but Leeds United were able to walk away victorious after they were able to show a bit more desire that Southampton seemed to lack during the latter stages of the match. Leeds were able to score two late goals from: Patrick Bamford and Tyler Roberts. This win for the team keeps them clear from the bottom half of the table, however this loss for Southampton still puts them at risk of being put into 17th or 12th if they win their last game and those above loses.

Newcastle United v Sheffield United

Joe Willock is on FIRE! After Newcastle United were able to greet the fans in St James Park, they got underway and just as the first half was closing Joe Willock was able to pull another great goal from out of his pocket and score the deciding goal in the game. He now has scored in six successive Premier League games and is now truly showing Newcastle what they will be missing out on next year.
